Receives, inventories, and signs for physical evidence submitted for examination. Reviews laboratory requests and determines the type of examination needed. In data recovery cases, determines the most appropriate method of protecting original evidence and recovering deleted, erased, hidden and encrypted data. With other forensic scientists and examiners, identifies and recommends methods and procedures for preservation, evidence recovery, and presentation of computer evidence. Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Responsible for the collection of all relevant documentation, information or data that will be required to form an overall picture of the circumstances of the case. Identify appropriate witnesses and obtain statements. Submit complete and correct paperwork compiled observing highest professional standards, within set time limits and ensure evidential integrity. Commands, directs and leads subordinates when working in groups. Assign subordinates duties, as need dictates. To look after all matter relating to administrative affairs. The Legal Advisor assists NR3C line functions, and upon request, assists with major cyber crime investigations.

Works with other groups (Systems and Services, Desktop Support, Security, etc.) to help establish the standards of system architecture, data communications, and system security.  Supervises the installation, documentation, and maintenance of software supported in all NR3C computer activities and disseminates this to other system administrators through NR3C IT Technical Operations.  Assists in the installation, maintenance and administration of VOIP systems and service.  Responsible for the backup of data, including automatic backup routines, testing data integrity, and offsite storage of media.  Reports weekly to Systems Operations manager (or Site Manager) on operational problems, plans, and progress.   Aids in the production of all network, system, security, and user documentation.  May be required to manage e-mail, DNS, file sharing, application, and/or other systems and services as necessary.
